Carbon neutral- two new
global buzzwords-not only in travel.
What an oxymoron-and without
hard data to justify green and socially responsible moves in the
travel arena, sceptics are holding off making informed
decisions.
But environment and climate
change issues are now resonating in the boardroom and can no longer
be ignored.
And with the federal
government committed to carbon- trading in the future which will
include a framework for compulsory reporting on emissions, a once
marginal issue has become a mainstream and unavoidable matter on
everybody's business agenda.
Accelerated by global warming
concerns, a consumer- driven trend has grown, promoting a more
responsible attitude to travelling, where the environment is
protected and local people benefit from tourism.
We do not profess to be
experts in this area, yet we are among the first of only a handful
of travel agents in Australia attempting to minimize the effects of
emissions generated by travel, while providing best practice advice
to our clients.
For the individual, being a
better traveller means looking for ways to limit the impact of your
trip.
Do you have any
idea about your own carbon footprint?
It is estimated that for each
and every long-haul flight we should be planting at least 6
trees.
Or for every short haul-flight
at least 2.
Just to give you an example of
what we are talking about, a flight from Adelaide to London via
Singapore will cover 32570km and generate 3.6 tons of
CO2-Carbon Dioxide.
How do we reduce
emissions?
What's it going to cost and
how will it affect our travel?
So many
questions.
Contact us to discuss how we
can assist in cutting down or offsetting your greenhouse
emissions.
And it's not just about
planting trees or building wind farms- as seen below off the coast
of Denmark.
There are a whole range of
ways of how we can all be ecologically more responsible. Get in
touch with our staff and ask for some tips-from the new concept of
commercial carbon offsetting, using eco friendly tour companies or
hotels, to booking hybrid electric cars or just everyday tips
on being a more responsible traveller.
